Tell Congress to Protect Agents from Assault

Great news! We are very close to winning our long fight to include assault protections for passenger service agents in the FAA Reauthorization bill.

The most recent version of the bill includes language that passenger service agents like us helped develop by meeting with members of Congress and talking one-on-one with officials in the Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration, and Transportation Security Administration.

Our e-mail messages, calls, and meetings have made a real difference. Because we shared our stories about the threats we face every day, the bill requires airlines to develop an Employee Assault Prevention and Response plan. The plan must include procedures to ensure that passengers who violently assault an agent are not allowed to move through airport security or board an aircraft until law enforcement has assessed the incident and taken appropriate action. Airlines must also provide us with training and written protocols for handling hostile situations.

Congress needs to pass the final version of the FAA Reauthorization bill this week before the most recent FAA funding extension expires. Write to your Representative and Senator today and ask them to protect passenger service agents by voting Yes on the FAA Reauthorization bill.
